Paris Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010: Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier

Couture Spine, Dita Von Teese and Mink Breasts?Givenchy Haute Couture:
Designer Riccardo Tisci decided to present his Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010 Collection--only 10 looks--in a more "intimate" stage, as opposed to a grand runway show. Therefore editors could look at the incredible workmanship and Tisci's dark eye for detail more closely. Zippers had bone pulls, jackets were carved out from leather as well as double silk duchesse satins to suggest a spine, or a skeletal structure.Black patchwork leather coat and Ombre feathered gown, Givenchy Haute Couture F/W 2010

Gowns were fitted and flared below the knee and over-embroidered with laces, leather and falling into cascades of feathers. Colors went from Winter White to Ombre metallics and grays as well as black. It was as if glorious birds had been in a storm and stripped of almost their entire feathered coverings only to reveal a stunning inner Couture structure with their feathered tails still intact.

Models will love these gowns for Met Opening events and the like. But I suppose those actual Couture-purchasing ladies in Russia, the Middle East and China will want to have the Atelier pack on a few more of the embroideries, well, to make it more "appropriate" for those private evening soirees in St. Petersburg, Riyadh or Beijing. Tisci, himself stated that 70% of the pieces that are ordered are altered to the customers specifications.

Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture:
Liza Would DIE: Gold lurex and silk batwing ensemble, cigarette holder and turban extra; Gaultier Haute Couture F/W 2010

Paris' enfant terrible, Jean Paul Gaultier, capped off Paris F/W 2010 Haute Couture Fashion Week with a show that was all at once elegant, directional, kitchy, Parisian, had slight nods to the 40's and the 80's and "Old Hollywood Glamour" (there it is again!) of course. Almost every look was capped with an exaggerated twist-knot turban that would make both Norma Desmond AND Lady Gaga SCREAM! The Collection was full of Le Batwing; infusing it from everything from trench coats (a Gaultier "signature") jumpsuit gowns and even his finale wedding gown, a Batwing Trench coat, of course (see above photo). Gaultier even showed his signature cone bras in mink with one wool ensemble. Try walking into the Plaza Athenee in this get-up next time you are in Paris kids. One of my favorites was this gunmetal ostrich-feathered and sequined cocktail number that had Josephine Baker written ALL OVER it!
The Close-Up detail is just incredible! Now, this is what you show up to the Grammys wearing!
The show ended with special guest model, the one and only Dita Von Teese, who sashayed in a Couture Negligee as only she would, showing the new line of Jean Paul Gaultier lingerie for La Perla. Vive le Kitsch, Vive La France and Vive L'enfant Terrible Gaultier.

Milan & Paris Menswear Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: The Hot Trends

Get Ready Boys: High-Waters, Speedos, Drop Crotch Pants and Mandals Dsquared2 Spring/Summer 2011: Two Trends In One: Speedos and Mandals

As ever Gay Fashionista Male in this Earth knows, the Spring 2011 Menswear Collections are happening right now in Milan. Menswear trends and styles change and/or move at a much slower pace than womenswear. It's all about the DETAILS. However, in terms of some "new" style direction coming out of Milan, here are the Trends: The 80s Are Back; High-water cropped pants are staying (they look great on them 6'4" boys, maybe not so much on the rest of us); DROP-CROTCH pants that are lose and baggy up top but tight-as-tight can be around the calves will be the "new" skinny pant for men, if Jean Paul Gaultier has his way. (I kinda love them, especially on his HOT bearded models in above photos!)I also like the Stovepipe-shaped pants (above) from Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton. Incidentally, that trench is "TO D.I.E!!!" LOVE.
The Speedo is BAAACK! Yep, dump the board shorts and opt for something more skimpy like the ones above from Dsquared2. Again, I suggest you have a body like Michael Phelps if you want to make that "Speedo" style plunge. Finally, it is all about the Mandals like the criss-cross ones from Louis Vuitton above, or the ivory ankle-strapped ones from Guiliani Fujimora. I am SO looking for these on Ebay next year!!!

Cruise/Resort 2011 Collections!! Chanel, YSL, Dior: Photos and Runway Videos!

Resort 2011 Buzzwords: Pink, Black and White, 70's and...
Jean Shrimpton and Sheikha of Qatar?

Chanel 2011 Cruise/resort Collection:
Karl Lagerfeld gathered all his top models--including his favorite boy toy, Baptiste Giabiconi, and held his Chanel Cruise 2011 Collection in fabulous Saint Tropez with guests seated on the red wooden chairs framing the street-turned-runway. The theme was definitely 70s, very HAUTE Hippie Chick with a hint of Jean Shrimpton and a BIG DASH of Brigitte Bardot. Flowy caftans, silk jersey tapered pants, high-waisted denim and lots of barefoot models strutting down the Saint Tropez streets as if it were 6:30 PM and they had just spent all day at the beach and were now ready for cocktails and Caviar! Pink, mustard, white were the strong colors of the collection, as well as lots of soft prints. Of course, there were the tried-and-true Chanel cropped jackets for all the ladies who have Caprese Salads in Positano...as well as some rather risque crochet styles that would definitely be on any Russian Mafia Mistresses Shopping List for her February 2011 Cruise to Croatia!

YSL Cruise/Resort 2011:
Stefano Pilati, designer for YSL, is getting "softer" or so the fashionista editors are saying...I think he's just realizing that his "girl" might also have a "lovelier" edge. His collection was very pretty, very lady-like, and très elegant. The chic turbans were VERY Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser al Missned (above with First Lady of France Carla Bruni-Sarkozy)Pink was again very strong in this collection, and high waisted shorts--such as the ones above--are de rigueur--when going out on your Marrakesh Resort 2011 "vacation".
Black and White were very strong for YSL Resort 2011 and it showed up in this very Bianca Jagger-esque pantsuit above...As well as this pretty yet still directional blouse and dirnl skirt ensemble (black being substituted for golden mustard).

Christian Dior Cruise/Resort 2011:
John Galliano went PRETTY in Shanghai for Resort 2011. Along with his Dior bosses--Bernard Arnault, and CEO Sidney Toledano--as well as 500 guests--he showed Dior Cruise/Resort 2011 in Shanghai, the "City of The Future". Not Paris, not New York City, not Los Angeles, not Milan. Yep, kids, if you want to play with the big boys and reach your new consumer, you show in China! Besides the 500 "invited guests", Dior muses Charlize Theron and Marion Cotillard (it's in the contract kiddies!), were flown via private plane to the Asian Capital of the new "No-Recession World" to showcase this multi-million dollar extravaganza! For Resort 2011, Galliano showed lots of PINK, a rose theme...as well as the famed Monsieur Dior Prince of Wales checks; updated in hot trench coats, and corseted cocktail dresses giving a nod to his last Haute Couture Collection. Speaking of Haute Couture: There are only an estimated 400 clients all over the world but the growing multi-millionaires in China are changing that--or so the Fashion Shows wish. Therefore, Galliano--in addition to his Pret-a-porter-- also showed Haute Couture pieces for Resort 2011, like this candy colored organza ball gown-- estimated to cost around $90,000-$150,000-- to entice the gorgeous "Real Housewives of Shanghai" ladies.
